Position Title: Little Rebel Preschool Assistant

Department: High School

Reports To: Principal

 

Summary: The Preschool Assistant supports the daily operation of Little Rebel Preschool located in South Newton High School by assisting the lead teacher and high school students in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment for preschool-aged children. This position helps model developmentally appropriate practices while supporting hands-on learning experiences for high school students enrolled in the Education Professions pathway and Hospitality Management pathway.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

• Assist with the supervision and care of preschool children throughout the school day.
• Support daily classroom routines, including arrival, centers, meals, restroom breaks, rest time, and dismissal.
• Help prepare and organize classroom materials, activities, and learning centers.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Encourage positive behavior and social-emotional development in children.
• Support high school students as they interact with preschool children during lessons and activities.
• Assist with implementing developmentally appropriate lessons and activities planned by the lead teacher.
• Observe children and communicate concerns or notable progress to the lead teacher and parents.
• Follow all school safety procedures, health guidelines, and confidentiality requirements.
• Participate in classroom setup, bulletin boards, and special events as needed.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, staff, and high school students.
• Assist and supervise high school students in preparing and serving snacks and lunch for preschool children.
• Guide students in following proper food safety, sanitation, and hygiene procedures.
• Support and supervise cleanup routines, including washing dishes, sanitizing tables, sweeping/mopping floors, and maintaining a clean kitchen and eating area.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned, which are necessary for the daily operation of Little Rebel Preschool.

 

Qualifications Requirements: 

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Experience working with young children is preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively with children, staff, and high school students.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
• ServSafe Food Handler Certification preferred or willingness to obtain.

 

Education and/or Experience:  High School diploma or equivalent preferred.  Successfully passing the ParaPro test or 60 college hours. 

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general information.  Ability to fill out reports on Brightwheel.  Ability to speak using grammatically correct English.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to understand basic math and record data.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with students in a variety of situations, such as recess and classrooms.

 

Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
