Additional details for the special education opening at South Newton Middle School.

 

Current caseload:  12 students (note that move ins and move outs may affect this number).

 

Assignments:  CT (Co-Teacher) in the following classes

South Newton’s master contract allows for three paid days for special education teachers to work on IEPs in preparation for annual case reviews.

SUMMARYResponsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

 

Instructs individuals and groups in special education skill areas.  Plans curriculum, lessons, and special ed programs and teaching methods.  Evaluates student progress based on papers submitted, test scores and observation. Monitors students progress in and outside special ed room.  Maintains physical environment of the classroom. Initiates and maintains contact with parents of students.

Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, and determines goals, objectives and directions.

Regularly enters data into grade book software.

Manages adult paraprofessionals in the classroom by assigning tasks, responsibilities, and duties.

Provides quality and sustainable feedback on paraprofessional’s performance to the building administrator so that appropriate evaluations may be prepared.

Submits paperwork and records to building administrator and cooperative in a timely fashion.

Participates in textbook adoption committees as appropriate.

Adopts appropriate textbooks for special education students.

Provides a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

Ensures that IEPs contain and clearly indicate all necessary accommodations and modifications.

Schedules annual case reviews and notifies all appropriate persons.

As teacher of record, works with and communicates with general education teachers of students for whom he/she is responsible.

Works with teacher of record for students for whom they are teacher of service.

Keeps an updated teacher of record list on file with the building administrator and with the co-op.

Attends relevant transition conferences.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelors degree in education.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Teaching certificate with Learning Disabilities special education endorsement:  Mild Interventions/Learning Disabled licensure.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
